The Natural Gas Project

The Natural Gas Project of Pande and Temane consist of three distinct but interconnected components:

  • The Upstream Component
  • The Transmission Component
  • The Downstream Component

The Upstream Component

Comprising the oil operations performed in the gas fields and processing plant, carried out by a consortium formed by the South African company SASOL, represented by its affiliate CMH, and IFC.

The Transmission Component

Consists of the pipeline carrying the gas from Mozambique to South Africa: the pipeline belongs to ROMPCO, a South African company whose stockholders are SASOL from South Africa, Companhia Moçambicana do Gasoduto, S.A. (CMG) – an affiliate of ENH representing the Government of Mozambique and - IGas, a subsidiary of the Energy Fund of South Africa. The gas pipeline has 5 outlets in Mozambique to supply the local market.

The Downstream Component

Comprises the South African gas market, operated by Sasol and the Mozambican market operated by Matola Gas Company in Matola and by ENH in Vilanculos and the Bazaruto Island Group.

The construction of the infrastructures for the project started in April 2002 and in March 2004 the Gas started being exported to the main client, Sasol Gas in Secunda, South Africa.

The project is being run at a good pace in accordance with the development plan and the environmental laws.
